The NuCalm Experience & Best Practices
The NuCalm Experience & Best Practices
The time you choose to NuCalm depends on a variety of things.
Your lifestyle and daily schedule is something to take into consideration, as well as how you feel on a given day and what you are hoping to gain from your NuCalm session.
You will learn which time of day fits best in your schedule and which benefits you can get from NuCalming at different times of the day. For example; morning sessions may help finish off a poor night’s sleep; afternoon sessions may help get you through that afternoon lull as an alternative to caffeine, and bedtime sessions may clear mind-chatter and help with insomnia.
Our only recommendation is to avoid the Recharge journey at night as these are designed as a “pick-me-up” and may affect your ability to fall asleep.
Your NuCalm session is as long as you want it to be or need it to be.
Ideally, you want to go to your natural endpoint – when you just “wake up” on your own.
If time is limited, you can set a timer with a minimum length of 20 minutes.
It is normal for initial session lengths to be quite long as your body is catching up from years of imbalance, stress, and poor sleep.
Ultimately, your natural endpoint time will begin to decrease as NuCalm becomes a tool for daily maintenance.
Daily use is ideal.
We recommend 3-4 times a week, 20-min minimum.
NuCalm is balancing your autonomic nervous system. If you are using it every day, there is less balancing to be done each time.
The natural endpoint of your session is when you start feeling restless and just “wake up”, similar to waking up from a nap.
Going to your natural endpoint means you have achieved complete autonomic nervous system balancing for the day.
The length of your natural session is an indication of how out of balance you are. Sleep deprivation, poor sleep quality, stress, jetlag, illness, injury are all factors that will affect the length of your session.
With consistent use of NuCalm, you will see that the natural endpoint of your session will become shorter over time.
NuCalm takes your brain waves to the verge of sleep.
The brain wave frequencies reached during typical NuCalm journeys are often associated with REM sleep. There is nothing stopping you from dipping into deep sleep. Your brain will drift into whatever state it needs for optimal recovery.
Lucid or vivid dreams are often a characteristic of the theta brain wave frequency range. The NuCalm technology allows you to linger in that theta-alpha brain wave range (4Hz-12Hz) where dreaming occurs.
The alpha-theta crossover state induced by NuCalm is likely to cause lucid imagery or biographical memories, and most regular users of NuCalm report an increase in dream activity and dream intensity. Additionally, the theta brain wave threshold is the optimal range for creativity, visualization and mental programming. Many NuCalm users are often left inspired after spending time in this transcendent state.
We recommend using DeepSleep.
DeepSleep sets the stage for a return to healthy, restorative sleep. Stop fighting with falling asleep, staying asleep, or long morning wake-ups, and experience firsthand the difference healthy sleep makes.
NuCalm can improve sleep quality and manage circadian rhythm dysfunction because it is provento reset homeostasis, which is your body’s internal equilibrium and balance in all physiological processes. NuCalm can also alleviate the stress of jet lag, and travel while quickly restoring order to your body rhythms and timing mechanisms. A full NuCalm journey (reaching your natural endpoint) will reset your autonomic nervous system and biological clocks, even after crossing multiple time zones.
Before traveling, use NuCalm every day during the few days before your trip, as it will groom neural pathways, balance your autonomic nervous system and build stress resilience.
During travel, use NuCalm on the plane – make sure to log in to the app and download the neuroacoustic software tracks prior to flying so you can play the NuCalm journeys while offline.
At your new destination, use NuCalm in the afternoon, instead of napping, or in the morning to supplement a lack of quality nighttime sleep.
You can use NuCalm just about anywhere! If at home, many people use NuCalm in their bed. If traveling, you can still use NuCalm in any posture that allows you some back support to relax (i.e., in an airplane seat or an office chair).
NuCalm Components
With your NuCalm, you will receive:
- Access to the NuCalm neuroacoustic software library via the NuCalm mobile app
- 10, 20 or 30 NuCalm discs per month (depending on your subscription) with Faraday cage storage bag
- A premium NuCalm eye mask
- A NuCalm zipper carrying case
You can use any headphones to listen to the NuCalm neuroacoustic software – even AirPods or any other good quality earbuds.
We do recommend good quality headphones or earbuds to ensure the headphones are delivering as much of the broad range of frequencies as possible.
If you are NuCalming in a louder environment, such as an airport or airplane, we recommend over ear or noise-cancelling headphones.
The NuCalm neuroacoustic software is layered with musical schematics that are specifically created and engineered to complement the pacing effects of the underlying physics and mathematical models.

The disc cannot be reused. However, you can keep the disc on after your NuCalm session for the remainder of the day. Many people wear the disc to sleep; if you struggle with sleep, then wearing the disc to sleep can help provide better sleep. Remember to keep unused discs stored in the Faraday cage bag that they come in.
